Once again, the US is preparing to vaccinate the elderly

The director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mandy Cohen, has endorsed two recommendations made by the agency’s advisory committee. They concern COVID-19 and pneumococcal vaccines for people at risk, namely the elderly and those with weakened immune systems. Yet the observation is there. Apart from the sometimes serious side effects, anti-COVID vaccines cannot provide protection against infection, nor block transmission between individuals.

CDC Director Mandy Cohen recently endorsed two recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) regarding COVID-19 and pneumococcal vaccines for older adults. These new Covid guidelines concern older and immunocompromised individuals, who are at particular risk for severe respiratory illness. Even though the current trend is not yet alarming, and the side effects of Covid vaccination are particularly risky, the US is pursuing a health policy based on denial of reality.

Additional doses for older adults and those with compromised immune systems

The ACIP has released two new recommendations on COVID-19 vaccines for people aged 65 and older who are moderately or severely immunocompromised. They have been endorsed by the CDC.

According to the new recommendation, the above individuals can receive a new booster dose during the 2024-25 season. However, there should be a 6-month interval between the new and the final shot.

Pneumococcal Vaccine Recommendations

The CDC also endorsed the ACIP recommendation on pneumococcal vaccination. Adults 50 years of age and older can now receive the pneumococcal vaccine. Previously, it was only intended for people 65 years of age and older.

According to the CDC, the risk of infection increases from the age of 50, which explains this decision. It should be noted that pneumococcal bacteria can cause serious disorders such as meningitis, pneumonia and blood infections.

Assuming that the vaccine loses its effectiveness over time, there is no real proof that vaccinated people will undoubtedly be protected from serious forms. All this shows that there is no reason to proceed to a completely different vaccination step.
