Trump attacks immigrants, calls rival Harris 'mentally retarded'

Former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Saturday attacked migrants who cross the border illegally and commit crimes, calling for their deportation. He also escalated his personal insults against his Democratic rival Kamala Harris, calling her "mentally retarded" and "mentally disabled."

on Saturday he delivered some of his most virulent rhetoric against migrants crossing the border illegally and committing crimes, particularly against young women, while also ratcheting up his personal insults against his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.

In the swing state of Wisconsin, Trump called Harris, who visited the US-Mexico border on Friday for the first time since launching her 2024 presidential campaign, “mentally retarded” and “mentally disabled.”

The Republican presidential candidate was surrounded by posters of immigrants in the US illegally arrested on murder and other violent charges, and signs reading “End Immigrant Crime” and “Deport Illegals Now.”

Trump unusually devoted almost his entire speech to talking about illegal immigrants. He described those who committed violent crimes as “monsters,” “cold-blooded killers” and “vile animals.”

The former president blamed his rival Harris and Democratic President Joe Biden for allowing illegal immigrants into the United States, accusing some immigrants of wanting to “rape, rob, steal, loot and kill the people of the United States.”

However, Trump acknowledged in his speech that “this is a dark rhetoric.”

Studies have generally found no evidence that immigrants commit crimes at higher rates than native-born Americans, and critics say Trump’s rhetoric reinforces racist stereotypes.

According to government data, authorities have apprehended about seven million migrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border illegally during the Biden administration, a record high that has drawn criticism of Harris and Biden from Trump and fellow Republicans.

During her visit to the border on Friday, Harris outlined her plans to fix the “broken immigration system” while accusing Trump of “stoking the flames of fear and division” over the impact of migrants on American life.

Harris also called for tighter restrictions on asylum.
