League Cup (3rd round): Painful victory for Manchester City.

Qualified by the smallest of the margins against Bournemouth, Manchester City had a more difficult evening for Liverpool, which easily disposed of Lincoln Town.

There will be a clash between Liverpool and Arsenal in the fourth round of the League Cup. In the aftermath of the Gunners' victory on Leicester lawn, the Reds took advantage of weak opposition to spend 90 minutes more than quiet. Residents of League One, the third English echelon, the Lincoln City players were literally crushed by a very clearly rejuvenated Liverpool team but with, all the same, elements of experience like Xherdan Shaqiri who opened the scoring in the 9th minute before Takumi Minamino does the break nine minutes later. In the last quarter of an hour before the break, 19-year-old Curtis Jones scored twice. After a fifth goal signed Minamino, Tayo Edun saved the honor for Lincoln City ... but that did not stop the players of Jürgen Klopp who spiked the addition by Marko Grujic shortly after the hour mark and Divock Origi at the very end of the match, Lewis Montsma going to deceive Adrian a second time. Liverpool win very easily (2-7) and will receive Arsenal next week.

Manchester City did not lead off

If the evening of Liverpool was a long calm river, the same cannot be said for Manchester City. Holders of the title, the players of Pep Guardiola have long been hooked by a valiant team from Bournemouth. It must be said that the Catalan technician, like his Liverpool counterpart, has not aligned his typical team for this meeting. Kyle Walker, Riyad Mahrez and Rodri being the only experienced players present on the lawn of the Etihad Stadium. When Liam Delap opened the scoring in the 18th minute on an assist from Phil Foden, the Citizens thought they had broken the lock but it took only four minutes for the Cherries to come back up to speed. Despite the entries around the hour mark from Kevin de Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, the Mancunians had a lot of difficulty making the difference and it was finally Phil Foden, on a second ball following a strike on the post from Riyad Mahrez , who offered the victory to Manchester City by the smallest of the margins (2-1) with a trip to Burnley who awaits Pep Guardiola's men for the fourth round.
